Facebook User Information
We give away the majority of our private information to these sites, information like email address, our home address, age, and information about our hobbies etc. And almost all of this information can easily be accessed by our friends, all unknown people who are viewing our profiles and every person linked to that very network. With the help of posting that we do online, we make available information related to our everyday life, our visiting places, our feelings about the tradition we accept and live with, even the proceedings of our routine life. We put our pictures online, start topics for chats, and comment on pictures and activities of our friends. Anyhow, the topic under discussion is that we are leaving a large amount of record of our activities behind that makes us exposed to be intruded by anyone. Our life is becoming less private, and we are responsible for it, we display each and every activity of our life on internet, intruding out privacy through our own hands.
These are the reasons caused by Facebook, which lead to incidents like we hear in everyday news – such news tells about the negative aspects to these social media sites as well. To quote a certain type of case that happens in technologically developed countries like US, people get caught and are fired from the difference in information they show on their social networks and what they actually have told at their workplaces. But people can be held guilty and responsible for doing such deceiving acts and lack of responsibility, more than a social networking site.
This sea of information has become such a vigilant tool for organizations, due to which people are going to suffer in future as well. Some IT companies are developing searching instruments which will help them to pool people of certain likes and dislikes, in order to target them for specific marketing campaigns. I bet, this is not a good thing to hear that “people are earning big dollars – from you, – by making use of your stated information – on social networking sites”.
The point we need to understand here is, internet is not a very private source of communication anymore – especially social networking sites like Facebook are not at all private. If you talk about Facebook, may be normal person is not able to view your information unless and until he/she are your friend, but this does not stops Face book Incorporation to look at your personal data and then furthermore provide to someone else. And to you not necessarily information that social network company pulls out from a person’s online activities, give the impression of being unkind.
You are assured a sense of security in agreement by social networking site, that your information will be safe and protected from hackers. But once you start using the network, is there any guarantee that your information is in reality protected, and will not be utilized in malicious use.
No matter, social networks provide us with great benefits all in all. But there is a cost for every good thing, and for using social network, probably you need to pay a big cost. Tragedies like Identity theft will take you years to recover and build you confidence back on online activities. So we should be cautious in exposing ourselves online while using social media networks.
