Facebook and Privacy
Being connected and in touch with everyone you know through the many social networking sites like Facebook has its own advantages. In the excitement of getting in touch with all the people you know, you forget that there are malicious people out there who would love to malign your self morale just for the sake of doing it. No one you know would randomly add you as a friend and then you begin getting all sorts of nonsense criticism from them.
Facebook provides you a good way of staying in touch with your relatives and friends, and allow various applications including sharing photos, sharing interests, and also playing games. Most people these days have become tech savvy and prefer staying in touch online. We have all created a virtual world for ourselves that we seldom leave; we sit glued to the computer to check for the latest updates from friends, this is the world we choose to live in.
When getting in touch with people, there are several things that you need to consider while sharing any personal information or pictures with them. Firstly you need to really know that person you have added as your friend. Secondly, you should not allow strangers to add you as their friend, as they can make illegal use of the data or information you share with them. Online privacy is of utmost importance as we need to know that when we share our pictures and information on Facebook, it is viewable by everyone even though if we set the privacy settings.
When creating a profile on any of these social networking websites, make sure that you don’t include all your personal details, especially the place you work, your contact number, your email address and it is also a safer bet to not include pictures on your profile as some people can save these pictures and morph them into ridiculous pictures. Your contact number can allow some people to harass you over the phone, and your email address will let them spam your mail box. Your place of employment can receive wrong information about you, which can be very misleading, and you can be at the risk of losing your job. You can also risk having a stalker. These social networking sites have allowed many nasty people to pose as someone else, befriend others on the internet, and then make use of their friendship by emotionally involving them and then abusing them.
Also, make sure that you regularly update your anti-virus software for protection against various virus attacks that are spreading through emails and message links. When you access the internet, you should be very careful in submitting your personal data to any website. Hackers have access to various pay sites that they can intercept the data you enter for a pay site. Therefore it is always best to stay cautious both online and offline. Like you would not trust a stranger with your documents and information, protect your online privacy by not entering your personal data on the internet.
