Facebook is ruining young lives

I am glad to read the postings here. My teen daughter is addicted to facebook. She is a junior in high school, this is a very important year for her and facebook fad is ruiing her career, her future. Forget about all those hundreds of so called facebook friends, it is all useless. She used to have friends before with whom she actually went to a movie or play or some activity together. She does not have any friends now in real life. She is spending all her time on facebook and does not feel the need of personal meeting.

We feel the pain for Mom who wrote the article. Image is not related the posting.

I do not understand how reading about other people’s lives or wasting time looking at tons of pictures is use of anyones time. Facebook is a teenage fad and addiction. There is so much commotion in the family because I try to make rules for limited time on facebook which she does not adhere to and it leads to a lot of arguments. It has terribly spoiled my relation with my daughter.

Facebook is causing distress in the families.

Facebook is wasting precious time of younsters, time which could otherwise be sued to focus on more meaningful pursuits.

Facebook is a hideout for introvert people who do not even feel the need to try anymore to meet people.

Facebook is ruining interpersonal skills.

Facebook needs to be banned immediately.

Facebook sucks and people really don’t have anything going on in their lives anymore so they have to concern themselves with everything thats going on in everyone elses lives. I think it is a good business networking tool, other than that it sucks. My own mother who is 52 talks to her friends and gossips like she is in highschool again. Then talks to me about it like i care. Im 24 and got out of the military honorably a year ago after 4 years of service, i might shout out at some friends that i met from all over the country a friendly hello once in a while on it, but thats it!!! How do you sit on a computer or stare at a screen that long and read all that bull shit that people are doing? Why cant people just worry about themselves, not to mention, all the dumbasses that use facebook like a porn/drug addiction made a 23 year old a billionaire!!! And food for thought for all the parents of kids that use facebook, the word sex is spelled out in the mapping on the log in screen in the mapping of the people on the world in facebooks picture!!! Be aware social media is corrupting the youth, kids are more disrespectful now a days because they can openly speak to eachother as well on facebook with no supervision, honestly what parent is gonna monitor their kids tri hour sessions on facebook on a daily basis!!! I sum it up by saying screw facebook!!!

I really think Facebook should be more strict about their age limit and up it even more. They should also ban accounts of those who are just children. They can see it on every pictures they have on their account!

Kids are now spending far more time with social media like facebook and modern technology rather than they are with their families or in school. This is simply shows that young people should be guided either by their parents or teachers for online activities.

  5. Irvine says:

Youngsters become careless when using facebook. Sometimes there are unaware, lured by others into giving information that will lead to being a victim with different cyber bullying actitivities, this also shows that facebook can ruining young lives.

Everything in moderation is what we should consider, Facebook tend to ruins one life if only if we allow it to be used in that way instead of using it properly. Youngsters are the one who suffers a the because they were the one who’s interest in new technologies and easy get along with what is new around them.

I don’t think so… we are in control of how we spend our time. If we spend too much of it doing with FB then yes it can adversely affect our life. People need to start being accountable for their own actions and stop blaming external factors.

I hate it! I hate the reality! I used to be completely obsessed with facebook, i never did my homework, never talked to my family, just locked myself in my room and sat on the computer all night long. Facebook is addictive! I agree, it can ruins our life!

Isn’t it very alarming that teens devote increasing amounts of time to the Internet?

From instant messaging, to email, surfing sites, participating in chat rooms and researching or doing schoolwork but sad to say that many parents fail to watch all their teens’ Internet usage because they believe their child is doing schoolwork where in fact, the teen is using the Internet for other purposes.

Parents should be very watchful & cautious about this teens internet addiction.

I’m sorry. What???!!! You want to ban Facebook because people like it? Ruben, this is a joke. Like with a lot of things (movies, medicine, games, working) people can get addicted. We don’t ban them. If you came on Dragon’s Den and I were Kevin I would’ve actually prodded you off the stage..

The small article above was written by an Ohio Mother who has teenage children. She is not alone in expressing her opinion about Facebook.

Our blog is for everyone to express their thoughts. Just the way you have expressed your thoughts.

As for the Dragons Den TV show you have to make it interesting. If you cannot make it interesting you cannot make it in any TV show. TV shows has lots to do with ratings. Last thing you want to do is to make it boring. And you want people to talk about in either side of the opinion spectrum. Kevin has a role to play and he does a good job of that in Dragons Den.

I appreciate your comments. Once again thank you for your opinion.

      • Alexander Thorburn-Winsor says:

And this Ohio can’t even spell “ruining”…

        • Amy says:

I think you mean she couldn’t type it. That was a typo not a spelling error.

This article is true in every way. Facebook is a time sucking machine, a virtual world. It’s useless & we need to get back to old times where you chat, make friends, and converse with people in real life. A world where we meet up or call someone with news or things to say–not run to our computer or cell phone to type it to the world and send it out into cyberspace.

          • Alexander Thorburn-Winsor says:

Ruben, why is it more “useless” than talking to them in person?

            • Kate.M says:

I am a mother and I can relate to the short article. I just don’t understand your question.

May be you will be able to answer your own question in 20 to 25 years.
